Arts to Grow offers internships available for undergraduate or graduate credit with permission from your institution.

 

NONPPOFIT MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP AVAILABLE


We have an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Founder/Executive Director during our third year of operations for this new arts education organization. Primary responsibilities include fundraising, communications and marketing.

 

We are looking for an intern that can commit a minimum of 10-20 hours weekly for a minimum of one semester. Work hours are very flexible. Work on-site in Arts to Grow's home-office. We are located 25 minutes from mid-town Manhattan in walking distance from the Grove Street PATH train in the historic Van Vorst Park area of Jersey City.

 

ABOUT ARTS TO GROW


Arts to Grow (ATG) is a non-profit arts education program partnering with schools and community organizations to bring classes in the arts to low-income youth. From September 2006 - August 2007, Arts to Grow worked with seven partner schools and community organizations serving 300 kids in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Hoboken and Newark, NJ.

 

Founded in February 2005 by Mallory King, ATG offers youth ages 5-18 opportunities to participate in performing, visual, and literary arts programs under the direction of qualified teaching artists. We have programs in New York City and northern New Jersey at schools and community centers.

 

Nonprofit Management Internship Job Description

 

Arts to Grow has a wide range of opportunities for the right intern. Your specific job responsibilities can be tailor-made to suit your interests and expertise. Below we have outlined specific projects that are currently available.

 

Fundraising


We have begun planning for our second annual benefit event co-sponsored by the Philanthropy Committee of the Columbia University Business School Alumni Club of New York. The intern will have the opportunity to learn all facets of special event management, as well as be involved in a wide range of activities from communications to board development, to annual appeals and foundation grant writing.

o Assist with all aspects of benefit event planning with special attention to marketing and communications of the event as well as create and maintain databases to carefully track all aspects of event management and donations.
o Conduct fundraising research, helping to identify potential prospects and creating prospect profiles
o Assist in creating proposals to targeted individuals, draft grant proposals to family foundations and government sources
o Prepare and send development outreach letters to key prospects
o Assisting in expanding our fundraising database
o Prepare board meeting materials

 

Marketing / Communications


o Assist in the creation of our e-mail newsletter produced three times annually. This includes writing short articles, compiling information, interviewing constituents, selecting photos.
o Create targeted packets for specific constituencies
o Create and update informational packets
o Assist in the development of databases for e-mail and snail mailings using Excel databases. Assist in growing the lists through research and pro-bono list acquisition.
o Assist with writing and disseminating announcements of ATG culminating events

 

Website Content Management


o Learn user friendly website content management system
o Review and update online materials as needed (a least bimonthly)
o Upload new content and photographs

 

Financial Management


o Assist with maintenance of monthly revenue and expense reports using QuickBooks On-Line

 

Program Management


o Teaching Artist recruitment
o Assisting with recruitment efforts
o Evaluation
o Assist with all aspects of recruitment process for site visit interns
o Monitor interns and track on materials completed by interns
o Culminating events - coordinating scheduling with teaching artists and program partners
o Inviting key ATG constituents to the event
o Writing about the event for our website
o Creating ATG posters for the event
o Planning Meetings
o When available, attend meetings, take minutes, become familiar with ATG teaching artists and program partners
